How do I get my permit?
The first step to getting your permit is pre-applying by creating an account with the Department of Licensing using License Express. There is a link on our RESOURCES page that will get you started. This is a 3-step process,
- Step 1 - Go to License Express and click on Join Now. Complete the online form to start the process. At the end of this step, you will be sent an email with a link that will take you to step 2
- Step 2 - Complete the remaining information and remember your Log In ID and Password, you will need it for step 3
- Step 3 - Log into License Express and find your ID Number. It will begin with the letters WDL.
Email your ID number to us at info@interfacedrivingacademy.com. We will file a waiver with the Department of Licensing for you. After we file the waiver, we will send you an email letting you know it is on file. Do not go to the Department of Licensing until you get this email from us!
If you already have a State ID Card from Washington, you do not need to pre-apply. Just email us your State ID Number, and we will file the waiver for you. After we file the waiver, we will send you an email letting you know it is on file. Do not go to the DOL until you get this email from us!
If you start the pre-application process and you get a message that a number has already been issued, some have already pre-applied. If you do not know what the ID number is, you will need to call or go to the Department of Licensing office and get the number.
And remember... Do not go to the Department of Licensing until you get this email from us!
I have finished my classes and drives, what comes next?
Hey congratulations!!! Nicely done!
The next step is taking your Department of Licensing Written and Driving Tests.(The test you took the last day of class was not your Department of Licensing Written test; it was the class final exam.)
Go to our website's Driver's License Testing page. At the bottom of this page, you can use links to book a written or driving test.
If you took the written test to get your permit, you do not need to retake it—YEA! Go straight to the Drive Test.
Can I split my attendance between two different sessions of Driver Education?
No. State regulations require that students be enrolled in only one class. They are allowed to miss a maximum of three sessions of their class.

How do I prepare for the Department of Licensing Written Test
You will want to study the Washington Driver Guide very thoroughly before taking the written test. There are online practice tests, but they do not cover Washington driving law in enough detail to prepare you to pass.
You can download a PDF copy of the WA Driver Guide that allows you to search for a specific topic. You can download apps that read the guide if you learn better by listening.
Where do I take my Department of Licensing tests to get my license?
You can take your Department of Licensing Written and Driving test with Interface Driving! Our current testing location is 329 W Hastings Rd, Spokane, WA.
When can I take my Licensing Tests?
You can take the written test once you have completed all your driver education class requirements. The Driver's License Testing page links to a calendar of testing dates and times. You do not need to make a reservation for the written test. We will occasionally cancel a test slot; check the calendar on the day you want to test to be sure we are testing.
Once you pass the written test, you can sign up for a Department of Licensing Skills (Drive) Test; these require you to make an appointment with us for testing.
